3D Design & Mould Development Expert
MYCOTEX by NEFFA is seeking a fulltime 3D Design & Mould Development Expert to research, design, development, and prototyping of 3D design and moulding strategies for our cutting-edge production methods. This role focuses on creating innovative 3D designs, programming, and developing new structural and moulding techniques, while optimizing fabrication processes through digital tools and automation. By integrating new materials and design methodologies, the goal is to enhance our technology and ensure ease of use for clients.
The ideal candidate is a problem-solver with a strong background in 3D design, programming, and advanced moulding techniques. Experience in robotic fabrication is highly desirable, as we seek someone eager to push the boundaries of design and 3D moulding innovation.
Key responsibilities
- Computational design and algorithm development: Develop algorithmic tools that allow clients and internal teams to generate optimized designs tailored for our advanced manufacturing methods. (create a structure design library).
- Innovative 3D model development: Research, design, and test advanced 3D models and moulds tailored for our unique production process.
- Prototyping and experimental testing: Develop and execute experimental setups to test novel moulding strategies and material behaviours, iterating designs based on performance insights.
- Robotic fabrication and automation development: Create and refine robotic routines (ABB/RAPID code) to enhance automated moulding techniques and integrate digital fabrication workflows into research and prototyping.
- Collaboration with industry partners: Work closely with external industry partners to advance knowledge in digital design, 3D moulding and translation into our development process.
- Technology optimization and future Innovations: Continuously explore new technologies, materials, and automation processes to push the limits of mould design and manufacturing capabilities.
Qualifications and Skills
- Min. 3 years of work experience in computational design and 3D model software Rhino and Grasshopper (additionally Z-brush, SolidWorks, Fusion 360).
- Knowledge of manufacturing techniques, including additive and subtractive methods, parametric design, and digital fabrication (incl. 3D printing)
- Experience in robotic programming (ABB/RAPID) and automation strategies for experimental fabrication.
- Strong background in R&D methodologies, including 3D design testing, iterative prototyping, and process analysis.
- Familiarity with algorithmic design and scripting (Python, C#, or equivalent) for parametric models and workflow automation
- Experience collaborating in multi-disciplinary R&D environments, working with engineers, designers, and material scientists to explore and validate new structures and design concepts
- Clear spoken and written communication in English preferable (Dutch is not mandatory)
- Ability to work in Amersfoort, the Netherlands (and in possession of a work permit if applicable
Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)
- Research and create X number of new mould techniques which have been researched, validated, and documented.
- Prototyping and develop experimental prototypes designed, fabricated, and tested with performance evaluations.
- Development and refine parametric design tools and algorithms for optimized mould and product design (Create a structure and object archive).
- Partner with internal teams and production in ensuring all structures, moulds and techniques are scalable.
- Reduce the average time from concept to functional prototype for new mould designs.
